Mackinac Island is the perfect place for a wedding. With horse drawn carriages, the lake splashing up on the shore, and the quietness of the night it is so romantic. As many may know Alex and I met & married on Mackinac Island–so when Moriah and Kenny asked us to photograph their Mackinac Island wedding at Mission Point Resort we jumped at the opportunity.
As we boarded Shepler’s ferry we saw their names on the upcoming wedding board for that weekend. A quick twenty minute ferry and we were arriving on Mackinac Island eager to begin the adventure. Moriah and her bridesmaids prepped in the bridal suite while Kenny and his groosmen got ready across the property. The couple decided to do a first look–which is our favorite moment to capture. It allowed the couple plenty of time for photographs around Mission Point prior to the ceremony. That way after the ceremony they were able to enjoy the rest of the evening with the guest instead.
Moments before the ceremony started at the gazebo at Mission Point the staff blocked off ‘traffic’ (aka the bicycle riders exploring the Island) and the bagpipes begin to play. Although the day was overcast the rain held off the entire day. The couple said it was perfect and in the Scottish tradition with the cloud coverage. During the ceremony the couple joined in hand-fasting as they said their vows. Once they said ‘I DO’ the bagpipes begin to play and followed them across the great lawn.
You can see the second part of this amazing Mackinac Island adventure tomorrow morning! The decorations, the dancing, and let’s not forget the amazing cake! It’s worth the wait.
