Peninsula Room Traverse City_0001

It’s been years since I’ve seen Julie & Geoff. We worked together in Marquette and briefly hung out when they were living in Chicago. So when they reached out about needing a second shooter for a Traverse City wedding I happily jumped on board. I arrived at the beautiful Peninsula Room and was greeted with a warm, strong wind off of the lake. The bride Julie and the groom Evan were finishing up getting ready inside before they had their first look outdoors. Their nerves and excitement could easily be seen from the images, it was a beautiful moment to capture. Afterwards, the happy couple took some time to trade letters and soak in the day that was happening.

On the front lawn, the final touches were being set up. Although it was quite windy the couple embraced it and move forward with their outdoor ceremony. The way the bride and bridesmaid’s dresses moved with the wind was mesmerizing. Julia and Evan exchanged their vows and rings before they pronounced husband and wife.

Immediately afterwards the newlyweds walked out to the gorgeous beach in front of the property. It was a way for them to take in all that just happened and enjoy the sunshine that was shining down. Next, it was off to the reception inside the Peninsula Room. The clean decor of blue and green was the perfect look for the hall.

They ate, drank, danced, and enjoyed being married. Right before we took off we snuck Julie & Evan off for a few last pictures along the shores of Lake Michigan as the sun was setting. It was the perfect ending to an incredible day. Thanks again to Geoff & Julie for letting me photography with them. Make sure to go follow their Two 9 Two Facebook fan page to see more. Enjoy!

It was early morning as I walked up to Mission Point Lighthouse. The birds were chirping and sounds of the waves softly splashing on shore could be heard. The beach was completely empty–except for Kynan and Mary. Kynan had told Mary they were going to go kayaking there that morning, but first, they should walk along the beach to check it out. Little did Mary know that a month prior Kynan reached out to me to photograph his surprise proposal! They strolled down the beach, venturing out into the water looking for Petoskey stones. Kynan found a great spot on the beach, got down on one knee, and popped the question. Mary said yes!!!

Walking back towards the lighthouse I greeted them, gave them a big hug, and congratulated the newly engaged couple. It was such an amazing moment to be a part of. Kynan also surprised Mary with an engagement session to follow, so the couple made their way back to their vehicle to change clothes. As they walked back to me they were smiling from ear to ear. Happiness was surrounding them. We started their engagement pictures in front of the lighthouse and along the shore where it all began. Slowly, as the morning progressed, the beach got a little busier so we made our way to the gorgeous wooded trails nearby. It was a true Northern Michigan engagement session for this couple visiting from Indiana.

I asked them if they wanted to picture immediately to announce the engagement, but they decided to wait a few days. To be able to tell their family in person after their vacation first, before announcing it to the rest of the world. It was such a beautiful way to relax and just enjoy the rest of their Traverse City trip. Now that they are back home and ready to share I can finally show you the fun from that day. Congrats Kynan & Mary! Enjoy!

When Holly contacted us about her intimate wedding she shared the details of the day. She and Brad planned to get married by one of her closest friends, surrounded by their children, in front of the beach house they rented for the wedding. We knew in that instant how amazing the day would be, we LOVE capturing elopements.

Alex and I drove up to Burt Lake for their wedding, checking the weather along the way. We made a small stop at Stems & Sprigs farmhouse to pick up Holly’s gorgeous bouquets along the way. Although the week leading up to their wedding was sunny that day it was calling for rain. As soon as Alex and I arrived everyone gathered on the dock. Storm clouds could be seen off in the distance, but that didn’t stop the couple from setting out on what they planned to do all along.

Tears and sniffles could be heard, mixed in with the splashing of the water along the shore. A couple of their children had readings before the happy couple read their vows to each other. Then the rain softly started to fall, but it didn’t matter. It just added to the experience of their wedding. The neighbors down the road gathered in the distance to watch the beautiful ceremony and cheered for joy when Holly & Brad said ‘I DO!’

After the ceremony, Brad & Holly went inside with their children and started preparing a family dinner. Brad and Holly gathered around the table to toast with their children and enjoy the cake they decorated for them earlier. Shortly afterward we left them to enjoy their family dinner in peace but walked away so grateful for the opportunity to capture their day. Huge congrats Holly, Brad, and family! It truly was the best day ever–rain and all.

Southwest MI Wedding_0001

Sean & Brittany’s Southwest Michigan wedding was incredible and so is the story of how they chose the location. They originally had a different date and location but decided to look at other locations. Once they stumbled upon Harborbanks Winery online they set up an appointment and instantly fell in love once they saw the venue. The town of Galien, MI is very, very small but has a big charm with that incredible venue! Just down the road, in the village of Three Oaks, MI was a beautiful spot for the couples first look.

Alex brought Sean, the groom, there in advance. Brittany, the bride, and I weren’t far behind as she finished up getting ready. The first look was such a sweet moment to capture. Individually they looked beautiful, but together they stunned. Shortly afterward their bridal party, including their three children arrived for portraits. The spot that we chose for pictures had beautiful light, which was much needed on such a directly sunny day.

The ceremony started shortly after arriving back to the winery. Upstairs the all-white painted space was a clean look, that really put all the attention on the happy couple. After they said ‘I Do!’ they invited their guests downstairs for cocktails as the upstairs got flipped into the reception space. We were so impressed not only how quickly they changed over the space, but how beautiful the set up was as well. And don’t even get me started on how delicious the dessert buffet looked.

We finished the night with them by taking a drive to Lake Michigan for sunset portraits with the happy couple. Onlookers cheered as they ran down to the beach to capture the sun just as it was setting. We loved ending our time with them at our favorite location–next to the water.

Huge thanks again to Sean, Brittany, and their adorable family for all the fun that day. We were honored to capture it all! Enjoy!

Brian and Regan had one request for their Rapid River engagement pictures; they wanted to be outdoors by a river or lake. Typically in the summer, the waterside is filled up with people enjoying the water, so we knew we had to find a little quieter place for them. When it came down to it, the perfect place was steps away from the location of their wedding location in 2018. We arrived to meet up with Brian, Regan, and their adorable dog Duke on a gorgeous summer evening. In hand they had a beautiful basket of florals, two KBC beers with Stormy Kromer koozies, and a sign with their wedding date. With that, we knew we were in for a fun engagement session. It was lovely to watch them interact with one another and also spoil their dog with affection. They sipped beers along the river as the sound of water splashed on by.

A quick outfit change later we walked down to the water. It’s our favorite when couples are willing to play around and even get into the water! Brian and Regan were game for anything and we adored photographing all the banter and love they have for each other. Even Duke was happy to get into the water, even though they didn’t want him to, haha. The best part of their engagement session was getting to know the two of them and know that with their wedding we can recreate a photo or two for them. It will be great to see side by side what a difference a year makes. We can hardly wait to photograph their beautiful wedding. Until then, enjoy!
